  • WHAT IS IT? Workers could be seen atop a building on Broadway in Hannibal on Wednesday morning. The structure is being brought down out of safety concerns.

  • Another empty downtown building is in the process of coming down. Work is now underway on the “de-construction” of 421-423 Broadway.
The building consists of two storefronts, which are actually a part of one building. The structure, however, is in such bad condition that its owner - The Crossing Church of Hannibal - is having it brought down to the ground.
Earlier this month, Ron Bricker, project coordinator with Bricker Excavating/Demolition, said the floors inside the building have holes.
According to Randy Drish, campus pastor, the building is being brought down “brick by brick and beam by beam.”
As the building is brought down, steps will be taken to protect the interior walls of the remaining buildings that will soon become exterior walls.
Once the old building is down, the church plans to use the new space to expand the church’s entry-way at 425 Broadway and its children’s area, which is housed in 417-419 Broadway.
