Mildred L. Hobbs, age 99, of Bushnell, IL passed away at 6:28 a.m. Saturday April 20, 2013, at the Prairie City Rehab & Health Care Center in Prairie City, IL. Mildred was born on February 14, 1914, in Bushnell, IL to Clarence and Mary Ethel Pennsinger Hornbaker. She married George C. Hobbs in Ada, MN on August 12, 1933, and he preceded her in death on July 17, 1988.
She is survived by 1 son, George Duane Hobbs of Galesburg, IL; 3 daughters: Joan Carter of Avon, IL, Patricia (Gary) McNeeley of Bushnell, IL, and Sharon Hudson of New London, MO; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 sisters and 2 brothers: Marian Hendrickson of Arlington, TX, Ruth Harper of Good Hope, IL, Ray Hornbaker of Ellisville, MO and Marvin Hornbaker of Blandinsville, IL. She was also preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters, and 1 great-grandson.
Mildred taught school for 1 year and worked at Head Start in Hannibal, MO. She and her husband farmed in the Avon area for many years. Later she and her husband owned and operated Hobbs Disposal Service in Hannibal, MO from 1957-1969. From 1969-1975, they owned and operated Hobbs Bar in Hannibal, MO and then in 1975 they retired and moved back to Bushnell, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday April 24, 2013, at the Martin-Hollis Funeral Home in Bushnell, IL, with Pastor Dave Eden officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. Tuesday April 23, 2013, at the Funeral Home where friends may call after 2 p.m. on Tuesday. Burial will be in the Point Pleasant Cemetery in rural Marietta, IL.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Bushnell Rescue Squad.
