Marion County Sheriff Jimmy Shinn has issued a warning about a lightning rod scam that has been reported to him by two people.
Shinn said two senior adults had been contacted by someone offering to person work on their lightning rods at their homes.
The people were taking advantage of the recent storm and the elderly in an attempt to scare these adults into believing they needed work done immediately, he said.
Shinn requested anyone who has received or receives this type of offer please contact someone in their family or local police officers to have the people making the offer checked out before they do any work.
If they are legitimate workers, they will stay and meet with the person’s family or the authorities, he said. Do not give anyone permission to do any work or give them any money until they are investigated and are found to be a legitimate business.
