An estimated 475 people turned out Thursday for the sixth annual Senior Expo at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center in Hannibal. It was a strong turnout considering what was working against the three-hour event.
Organizers were keeping a wary eye on nearby Bear Creek early Thursday.
“Bear Creek has gone down a lot since 7 this morning,” said Aron Lee, supervisor for the Hannibal Parks & Recreation Department, shortly before 9 a.m.
A media report Thursday morning that Warren Barrett Drive had been closed because of high water prompted a “flood” of phone calls concerning whether or not the event was still on.
The event featured a record 80 vendors, according to Mary Lynne Richards, assistant supervisor for promotion and planning for the Hannibal Parks & Recreation Department.
This year’s event was sponsored by Hannibal Parks & Recreation, RSVP at Douglass Community Services, NECAC, Experience Works, the Marion and Ralls County Health Departments and NEILS.
