Bob was strong Christian man who dedicated his life to service to the Lord. He was an outstanding role model to those who knew and loved him. He not only talked the talk, he walked the walk. He was a member of the Clover Road Christian Church in Hannibal, where he served as a greeter for a number of years. His friendly face and warm handshake will be missed. Bob was an avid golfer, who loved playing rounds with relatives and friends. He had an eagle eye for finding golf balls. He would frequently finish a round of golf with two dozen or more balls than he started with. He and Letha were well-known antique collectors when they resided in east-central Illinois. However, his true passions were his family and the church. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy. After his military service, Bob attended and graduated from Hannibal-LaGrange College. He also held a bachelor’s degree from Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri and two advanced degrees from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. Following his graduation from HLG, he embarked upon his profession as an educator that lasted over three decades in Missouri and Illinois. He finished his distinguished career as the longtime superintendent of schools in the Bismarck-Henning Community School District #1 in east-central Illinois. Bob was the consummate educational professional who always put children first.
Memorial contributions may be made to Clover Road Christian Church in care of the James O’Donnell Funeral Home.
