  • Culver-Stockton students are looking for people who remember World War II.
Students in Dr. D’Ann Campbell’s Women in American History class are researching WWII, and are gathering perspectives from primary sources, in this case people who lived through the war. The students’ goal is to conduct multiple interviews from many different points of view. All memories are welcome, from those of people who were just children to veterans who fought in the wars. Students will travel to conduct the interviews as requested. This project ties in to both Culver-Stockton’s 160th anniversary celebration, as well as the two-part military documentary series hosted at C-SC this semester.
Students are planning on memorializing the 30-60 minute interviews by recording them and submitting them to the Culver-Stockton archives once completed.
To add to students’ and the community’s understanding of WWII, there is a viewing of the feature-length documentary, Honor Flight on campus, scheduled at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 4, in the Alexander Campbell Auditorium, located in the Robert W. Brown Performing Arts Center. The Honor Flight movie is the second part of Culver-Stockton’s military documentary series hosted this semester. All area veterans and their families are invited to attend the documentary viewing. The lobby of the Performing Arts Center will be filled with posters boards covered with pictures and accounts from the students’ interviews. The viewing is free and open to the public.
Prior to the viewing, there will be an Appreciation Luncheon to honor all Culver-Stockton alumni who served in the armed forces during WWII and the Korean War. The luncheon is in the Gladys Crown Center, beginning at 11 a.m.
To volunteer to be interviewed by a student, contact Campbell at dcampbell@culver.edu or (860) 917 1729. To sign up for the luncheon, call 800-755-2287.
