  • For months, the case against Trevor Hubbard has been a watch and wait scenario.
If there was ever a case to observe to see just how the "process" works and how long it can take just to get to a certain point, the case against the 18-year-old rural Hannibal man has been it.
He is now on his third lawyer and has tried for another reduction in bond.
Hubbard was in court Tuesday for trial setting which was continued from March. With him this time was his new attorney, James Ochs of suburban St. Louis. A continuance so there's time for discovery and case research was expected and granted for the new lawyer, but another shot at lowering Hubbard's $100,000 cash-only bond was up for discussion.
    This time it got interesting.
Trevor Hubbard's father, Terry Hubbard, offered property bond in an attempt to release his son from Ralls County custody, but Assistant Ralls County Prosecutor Robert Rapp stood his ground.
"The charge is so serious," Rapp told Judge Rachel Bringer Shepherd.
Trevor Hubbard is charged with sexual assault, sexual abuse, forcible rape, felonious restraint, and child molestation following an incident with his 15-year-old ex-girlfriend.
"It would be a strong motive to not appear," Rapp said. "He definitely poses a threat to the community."
Bringer Shepherd took the matter under advisement and later denied the motion. Trevor Hubbard remains incarcerated with the Ralls County Sheriff's Department at the Pike County Jail in Bowling Green.
After the hearing, Terry Hubbard had much to say about his son's accusers.
"They're running out of old news. It's just another rerun isn't it?" Terry Hubbard said. "I'm still faithfully interested in the truth. I am confident the truth will prevail."
Trial setting is slated for 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 7 at the Ralls County Courthouse in New London.
