  • A Monroe City youngster recently won the American history essay contest sponsored by the James Monroe Chapter (Paris) of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Trinity Scott, son of Rob and Wendy Ellison of Monroe City, was given a Chapter winner certificate, an Excellence in History NSDAR Award bronze medal, and a small monetary award for his essay on Molly Pitcher.
The annual essay contest is open to youngsters in the fifth through eight grades. The contest was open to students in public, private and parochial schools, and those who are home schooled. Trinity’s essay was one of 24 essays submitted from Courtney Smith’s sixth grade class at Holy Rosary School.
