  • Vincent J. Grote, age 72 of Curryville, passed away Wednesday March 27, 2013, at his residence. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Clement Catholic Church with Fr. Bill Peckman officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the St. Clement Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green.
    Mr. Grote was born April 11, 1940, in St. Clement, the son of Edward George and Louise Francis Luebrecht Grote. On November 19, 1966 at St. Clement Catholic Church, he married Vicki L. Feldmann. She survives. Also surviving are two sons Paul Grote and wife Sandy of Curryville, Bill Grote and wife Kelly of Bowling Green; three daughters: Beth Lott of St. Louis, Elaine McDannold and husband John of Bowling Green, Janet Akers and husband Ronnie of Bowling Green; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Dennis Grote of Bowling Green; two sisters: Millie Millinder and Ruthie Murray both of Bowling Green and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Phillip Grote.
    He grew up and lived his entire life in Pike County. Mr. Grote served in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant in Germany during the cold war. He was a self-employed farmer and later worked for MFA Transportations as a truck driver. He was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church where he served as Eucharistic Minister and was also a member of St. Clement Knights of Columbus Post #1928 where he served as Past Grand Knight in 1969. Mr. Grote had a passion for no-till farming. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He also loved the St. Louis Rams Football.
    Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Barton, Josh Barton, David Barton, Justin Grote, Rob Millinder, David Millinder and Chad Murray. Honorary pallbearers will be Jacob Grote, Matthew McDannold, Aidan McDannold, Jack McDannold, Sarah Akers, Hannah Akers and Emma Akers.
    Memorials may be made to Prostate Cancer Foundation, P.C.A.D.D. or donors’ choice.
