  • Dorothy Ann Trippensee, 85, passed away quietly on March 20, 2013, at Bickford Cottage in Quincy, Illinois, after a lengthy and courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
    She was born October 19, 1927, in St. Louis, Missouri, to John Thomas and Hazel Metcalf Burlison. She had one sister, Margaret Mann, and two brothers, William Burlison and Eugene Burlison, all of whom predeceased her.
    An avid roller skater, Dorothy was introduced to James R.Trippensee by friends at the St. Louis Arena skating rink. On October 26, 1946 they were married at St. Peter's Presbyterian Church. They celebrated 51 years together before Jim's passing on May 15, 1998.
    Dorothy's main interest was her family. She was a mother to Gayle, Catherine and Jim, Jr. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and traveling, both on family vacations and business trips with Jim for Ralston Purina and spending time with family and friends at 'The Cabin' in Cuba, Missouri.
    She leaves behind her loving children, Gayle Lavin and her husband, Tom, of Huntsville, AL; Catherine Hirner and her husband, John of Hannibal, MO; and Jim Trippensee, Jr of Cuba, MO; her grandchildren: Stephanie Hall and her husband, Ed of Buford, GA; Chris Lavin of Huntsville, AL; and Josh Hirner of Irvine, CA; as well as her extended family.
    She will be missed by many friends. They will treasure memories of her kindnesses and her sense of humor.
    Dorothy's family would like to extend special appreciation and gratitude to Dorothy's outstanding caregivers and to the entire staff at Bickford Cottage, to the compassionate and highly professional staff of Blessing Hospice and Dr. Adam Reyburn for their compassionate and excellent care.
