  • Master Gardener Cecelia Obert, president of Salt River Master Gardeners in Hannibal, presented a program entitled “Come Watch Me Grow” to more than 20 people at the Centralia Library on March 19. The program was sponsored by the Centralia Flower & Garden Club.
The program by Obert, who holds an associate’s degree from John Woods College in Horticulture and Landscape Design, showed people how to start plants from seed at home with little cost. Obert took the audience step by step through the materials needed, how to actually plant the seeds, secrets she has discovered to make the process more successful, where to get the materials, hints about the soil used, water conditions, how to prepare some special seeds, temperature controls and lighting. She also answered numerous questions.
At the end of the program, everyone received handouts about planting, as well as packets of seed from Obert’s own gardens, and some packets from the Centralia Club.
