A $2 million-plus renovation will begin later this year at the County Market store in Hannibal, according to Rich Niemann Jr., president and CEO of Niemann Foods Inc.
“We’re really excited about it,” said Niemann, who estimated the work will begin late this spring or early summer. “It’s long overdue and we’re excited to bring all the latest that we do in our grocery stores to Hannibal. Hannibal has been great to us. We’re very appreciative of the business we have done over the years in Hannibal and we feel it’s time to bring the store up to what we consider our ‘Tradition’ store.”
Work will take place both inside and outside the store’s Steamboat Bend location.
“It’s going to be a complete facelift,” said Niemann. “There will be some extensive exterior work. Inside is where all the action is really going to take place. We’re going to be renovating the whole store. Most of the equipment will be replaced. We’re going to be really adding to the prepared foods and fresh side of the store. There will be some real dramatic changes that are going to happen that I think people have been waiting for and are really going to love to see.”
Among the additions will be a Chinese kitchen and salad bar, plus an area where customers can sit and enjoy their food.
“There will be so many new things on the fresh side. There will be some dramatic changes. I think people are really going to like it,” said Niemann.
The door is still open to customers’ suggestions on what they’d like added as part of the renovation.
“We’re still in the planning stages and we’ve gotten some feedback,” said Niemann. “Going in and talking to our store director (Steve Hoffman) is just fine with us, too.”
The store will remain open during the renovation process, according to the company CEO.
“We’ll do everything to minimize the inconvenience,” said Niemann, who estimates the work will take between five and six months. “A lot of times people want to see what the progress is and what’s going on.”
The County Market in Hannibal features approximately 90 associates. As a part of the changes, more jobs will be created.
“With a greater emphasis on prepared foods, that always takes more people. There will be some additions to the staff as we go forward. We’re excited about that, too,” said Niemann, who estimated that around 10 new jobs will be filled.
