  • Two members of the Hannibal Board of Public Works observed the first day of spring by working in winter-like temperatures and at times blowing snow to repair a broken water main on Cardiff Drive.
According to the BPW, the break was discovered around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. A call out was then made to have other utilities near the break marked. Those utilities reportedly had two hours to respond.
The process of digging down to the 6-inch water main was well under way by shortly before 11 a.m. The project was expected to take in the neighborhood of two hours.
The water line break reportedly did not impact too many BPW customers.
A boil order was not anticipated, unless water in the main had to be turned completely off to make the repairs.
One of the workers at the scene was Tony Steinman. It was laughingly noted that Steinman, who started working for the BPW in the early ‘80s, was working on his 2,001st water leak.
