Otis F. Paris, 93, of rural Hunnewell, Missouri, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013, at the Salt River Community Care Center, Shelbina, Missouri. He was born October 1, 1919, in Monroe City, Missouri, the son of Owen Festus and Ruby Anna Selsor. Otis was a member of the Monroe City Christian Church, Monroe City, Missouri.
He attended Stone School and Gentry Country School and graduated from Monroe City High School in 1938. He was a Monroe County grain and livestock farmer. He was a lifelong Mason of the Monroe City Masonic Lodge #64. He also served in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII. He was a member of the Monroe City VFW Post #4240.
Otis was a avid outdoor sportsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Most of all he enjoyed following University of Missouri sport programs and St. Louis Cardinals baseball.
He married Mary Ann Carr, April 20, 1947, and she passed away December 20, 2001. Survivors include: one son, Keith Paris and wife Cindy, Monroe City, Missouri; two daughters: Carla Paris, Hunnewell, Missouri, and Janice VanSickle and husband Mike, Macon, Missouri; one sister: Lucille Cheek, Quincy, Illinois; three grandchildren: Alisa Willingham and husband Chris, Monroe City, MO.; Matt Paris, Columbia, Missouri, and Blake Paris, Kansas City, Missouri; two great-grandchildren: Annie and Kate Willingham; also survived by one brother-in-law, Richard Carr and wife, Josephine, Hunnewell, Missouri, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother, Weldon Pete Paris, and one foster brother, Bill Blackwell; four sisters: Ethel Bono, Marjorie Mayes, Josephine Baltzer and Delores Lawrence.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2013, at the Garner Funeral Chapel, Monroe City, Missouri, Rev. Steve Goughnour will officiate; burial from the St. Jude Cemetery, Monroe City. Visitaiton will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday evening, with a Masonic Service beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Active pallbearers will be Matt Paris, Blake Paris, Chris Willingham, Dexter Carr, Gary Carr and Will Hays. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Carr, Donald Benson, Sr., Mary Creech, Oscar Hernandez, Denny Lawrence, Mike VanSickle and Kent Cheek.
Memorials have been suggested to the American Heart Association, Holy Rosary School or the Shelby County Neighbor to Neighbor Fund.
