Mary Lou Appel, 83, of Hannibal, Missouri, formerly of Edina and Palmyra, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at the Hannibal Regional Hospital. Mary Lou was born April 27, 1929, in Union, Missouri, to Claude N. and Greta M. Jones Howell. Mary Lou was married to Raymond A. Appel July 16, 1949, in Palmyra, Missouri. He preceded her in death December 19, 2011.
Survivors include sons: Marvin R. Appel of Loveland, OH; Dennis C. Appel of Lewisville, TX; granddaughters: Noelle Appel of Temple, TX; Natalie Appel of Fort Worth, TX; sister-in-law, Mary Appel of Palmyra; niece, Mary Jording of St. Louis, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Norma Jean Jording; brother-in-laws, Fred Appel and Marvin Jording. Mrs. Appel was a retired secretary for the Oakwood Elementary School. She had formerly served as a school secretary in Edina, Missouri, and at Mark Twain Elementary in Hannibal.
Mary was a 1946 graduate of Palmyra High School.
She was a member of the Hannibal Regional Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and was a member of Grandview Bells in Hannibal. Mary was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Palmyra and attended the Arch United Methodist Church in Hannibal, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2013, at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra. Rev. David Scott will officiate. Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Palmyra, Missouri. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Arch United Methodist Church.
