More than a dozen Hannibal area roads were closed Sunday, March 10, when melted snow and major rainfall caused flooding, according to MoDOT’s Northeast District.
MoDOT Maintenance and Traffic Engineer Jennifer Hinson advised motorists to learn details about road conditions on the traveler information map on www.modot.org.
She said area streams and rivers are swollen, and with the ground saturated, the water is going over some of lower roads.
Some roads remain closed for several hours, but water levels change quickly, so MoDOT crews are monitoring these areas, Hinson said.
MoDOT reminded drivers to never travel through a flooded road. Barricades have been placed where roads are closed, and motorists should find alternate routes. Travel tips are available at http://www.modot.org/flooding/needtotravel.htm.
