Ronald Eugene Edwards was sentenced to multiple terms with the Missouri Department of Corrections following a court appearance in Audrain County Circuit Court on March 4.
Edwards entered guilty pleas to burglary, second degree, a Class C felony; attempted theft/stealing, a Class D felony; possession of burglary tools, a Class D felony; and property damage in the first degree, a Class D felony.
He was arrested Jan. 3 near Laddonia for trying to steal from an ATM. At the time of his arrest, he was on parole for the 1975 killing of an Illinois sheriff’s deputy. He had been paroled in May 2012 from the Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro.
Edwards served half of his 40-year sentence in the death of Sangamon County Deputy William Simmons. But on Jan. 3 the 66-year-old Edwards was arrested with another man near Laddonia.
