An Illinois man was left with minor injuries following a crash Wednesday morning on U.S. 36.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol the mishap happened at 9:10 a.m. on eastbound U.S. 36, 0.1 of a mile west of County Road 271.
A 1999 Toyota 4-Runner was being driven west by 47-year-old Eyad A. Al-Swetti of Champaign, Ill. When Al-Swetti lost control of the Toyota on the ice-covered road, the vehicle went through the median and onto the highway’s eastbound lanes where it overturned.
Al-Swetti, who was wearing a safety device, was taken by ambulance by Marion County Ambulance to Hannibal Regional Hospital.
While traffic was stopped on eastbound U.S. 36 because of the accident, a report was received from a man who said he was taking his father to the hospital with heart attack symptoms. The man was seeking a way around the traffic. At about that time law enforcement was beginning to allow traffic to pass through the area.
