  • Norman “Chip” August Engelage, 89, a Wright City, Mo., farmer, was born Sept. 25, 1923, in St. Charles County, Mo.
    He died at 4:10 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, at Delmar Gardens in O’Fallon, Mo.
    Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Pitman Funeral Home, 1545 Wentzville Parkway, Wentzville, Mo.
    Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2013, at St. Pauls UCC, Defiance, Mo., with burial at St. Paul UCC Cemetery, Defiance Mo.
    Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s UCC Cemetery Fund, in care of Pitman Funeral Home, PO Box 248, Wentzville, M0, 63385.
    Survivors include his wife, Melna Jean Engelage of Wright City, Mo.; son, Darrell N. (Judy) Engelage of Foristell, Mo.; son, Randall “Randy” J. Engelage of Wright City, Mo.; daughter, Cheryl M. (Bill) Cunningham of Hannibal, Mo.; sister, Dorothy Howell of Defiance, Mo.; granddaughter, Tricia (Joe) Dattilo; granddaughter, Lori (Charlie) Belleville; grandson, Greg (Theresa) Engelage; granddaughter, Heather Engelage; granddaughter, Alicia Hicks; granddaughter, Caitlin Cunningham; grandson, Clay Cunningham; great-granddaughter, Madisen Dattilo; great-grandson, Chandler Belleville; great-granddaughter, Sophie Dattilo; great-grandson, Landon Engelage; great-grandson, Braden Engelage; and great-granddaughter, Adriana Rogers.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Oswald L. Engelage; mother, Hilda W. Engelage; in-laws: Elihu Bueneman, brother-in-law; Dede Howell, brother-in-law; E.W. Bueneman Jr.; and nephew, Rick Howell.
    Mr. Engelage was a Francis Howell graduate, Class of 1941. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the 114th Construction Battalion Seabees.
    He served on the Francis Howell School Board, 1954 to 1979. He was inducted into the St. Charles County Amateur Sports Hall of fame in 1991 and served on the Board of Directors. He was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s UCC and on the Church Council.
