Dr. Jon Hagler, Missouri director of agriculture, will be the featured speaker at the 42nd annual Missouri Democrat Days banquet today, March 2, at the Hannibal Inn & Conference Center, 4141 Market St. The banquet will be served at 7 p.m.
Grassroot Workers, USA, is this year’s theme for Demo Days, which began Friday, March 1, and will conclude today. On Friday, Loretta and Marvin Bringer began selling raffle tickets for a stadium blanket featuring Barack Obama’s two inaugurations.
Local Democrat leaders will join state and national legislators at Demo Days, where a benefit auction will be conducted by the Young Democrats of Missouri, and various meetings are scheduled today.
Additional banquet speakers will include Jim Kabell, president of the Missouri-Kansas-Nebraska Conference of Teamsters, and Ralls County farmer Eddie Joe Hamill, who is a former Farm Service Agency director. The Clarence Cannon Award will be presented by Shelby County Clerk Tracy Smith.
Earlier today, Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander will speak at the 10 a.m. brunch. Also on the brunch program are Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon and David Hurst, president of the Greater St. Louis UAW-CAP Council, along with leaders of the Young Democrats of Missouri.
A youth panel will be coordinated by Marty Kocher, Marion County Sheriff Jimmy Shinn and Tracy Smith. Judge Rachel Bringer Shepherd, presiding judge of the 10th Judicial District, will provide vocal music at both events.
