Robert Bross of rural Palmyra died as the result of a motor vehicle accident at 9:53 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at the intersection of East Main Cross Street and U.S. 61 at Palmyra.
Palmyra Police Chief Eddie Bogue reported that a pickup truck driven by Bross apparently attempted to cross the southbound lanes of U.S. 61 and pulled into the path of a southbound semi tractor trailer.
The pick up truck was struck on the driver's side and incurred extensive damage. The impact from the semi pushed the pickup truck into the median, knocking over a sign post and sign. The driver of the semi was not injured but had extensive damage to semi tractor.
The driver of the pick up truck was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Marion County Sheriff, Jimmy Shinn.
The road conditions at the time of the crash were partially snow covered and slushy. Bogue said it was unable to be determined how much the road conditions, if any, had a bearing on the crash. The driver of the pick up truck was not wearing a seat belt.
