  • The disc golf course in Huckleberry Park was described as a favorite by several people who came to Hannibal to compete in the annual Ice Bowl tournament on Saturday, Feb. 16.
“It is well run,” Debbie Polkinghorne of O’Fallon, Mo., said of the Ice Bowl. “I like the course. It is my favorite out-of-town course,” second only to one in O’Fallon.
Playing disc golf is good exercise, she said. The event has several divisions, she explained, and she competes in the intermediate division. (She won the women’s division).
Cliff Goodin of Mexico, Mo., agreed, adding Mexico has two disc golf courses, where “we are trying to get a lot of kids in it.”
David Waller of Palmyra has been playing disc golf for a year and a half and also plays at his local course. The course in Palmyra covers 2.5 miles, he said and “this is a little bit shorter,” still offering a good opportunity for exercise.
Participants from all over the tri-state area competed in this seventh annual Ice Bowl Saturday in Huckleberry Park. It was sponsored by the Hannibal Parks & Recreation Department, with several businesses as co-sponsors.
Proceeds went to the Douglass Community Services’ food pantry.
Don Crane, tournament organizer, said almost 50 people participated in the tournament. “It was a very competitive group,” he said. “Even in the cold weather, they love to come to the Hannibal course, because it is challenging.”
Mary Lynne Richards, Parks & Recreation assistant supervisor for promotion and planning, reported the following Ice Bowl winners.
