94, of Hannibal
Dr. Kenneth Moore, 94, of Hannibal, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at Beth Haven Nursing Home in Hannibal, Missouri. Kenneth was born October 10, 1918, near Mt. Sterling, Illinois, to Joseph B. and Anna Hatch Moore. Kenneth was married to Wilma Glascock of Philadelphia, Mo., August 19, 1942, at Bethany Baptist Church, Philadelphia, Mo. She survives of the home.
Survivors include: daughter, Anita Walden and husband William of Jefferson City, Mo.; grandchildren: David (Peggy) Walden of Springfield, Mo., Angela (Jeremy) Crocker of Springfield, Mo., Steven (Maria) Walden of Hartsburg, Mo., and Jeffrey of St. Louis, Mo.; great grandsons: Will Crocker of Springfield, Mo., and Joshua Walden of Hartsburg, Mo.; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Charles Howard Moore; and a brother, Glen Moore.
Kenneth was a graduate of Hannibal-LaGrange College and William Jewell College, Liberty, Mo.; also Southern Baptist Seminary, Louisville, KY; and Luther Rice Seminary, Jacksonville, FL. He also attended Southwestern Baptist Seminary, Ft. Worth, TX under the United States Naval Reserve V-12 Navy Chaplain Training Program.
Dr. Moore taught Bible Greek and related subjects at Hannibal-LaGrange College for thirty-five years, and pastored Baptist churches in Missouri, Texas, and Kentucky for more than sixty years. Local pastorates include Emden, Center, Bethel (Palmyra) and Dover (LaGrange); also interims with First Baptist of Kahoka and the First Baptist Church of Palmyra.
His interests included archaeology and Bible lands, visiting Israel on five occasions, leading two of the tours. One 58-day class in Biblical Archeology touched fifteen countries, including Egypt and the rock city of Petra in Jordan. A mission tour took him to Australia, Tasmania, and New Zealand. He also visited former students and pastors on the islands of Oahu, Maui and Hawaii. He worked on the history of LaGrange College, and later was successful in tracing the line of William Henry Hatch of Hannibal, his third cousin, back to England.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013, at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra. Dr. Raymond Carty will officiate. Burial, with military honors by the Boots-Dickson American Legion Post 174, will be held at the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery northwest of Philadelphia, Mo. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Baptist Associational Camp Inlow for the promotion of activities for young people of the area.
Casketbearers will be David Walden, Steven Walden, Jeffrey Walden, Jeremy Crocker, David Smith, Dana Smith, Duane Smith and Charles Lochman.
