Donald F. Murawski, 89, of Hannibal, died at 11:16 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2013, at Hannibal Regional Hospital. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2013, in Holy Family Cemetery. Father Lou Dorn will officiate. Military Honors will be provided by Emmette Shields Post #55, American Legion. No visitation is planned. Smith Funeral Home & Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Donald was born January 15, 1924, in Hannibal, a son of Victor J. and Christine L. Roszak Murawski. He is survived by two brothers: Eugene Murawski of Fowler, Ill. and Willard Murawski of Carthage, Mo.; a sister, Catherine Murawski of Hannibal; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jerome Murawski.
Donald retired from General Motors Corp where he worked with diesel railroad locomotives as an Experimental Tester in the electromotive division. He graduated from McCooey High School and attended Hannibal LaGrange College.
Donald was a U. S. Army Air Corp veteran of World War II. He was awarded The Distinguished Flying Cross, 4 Air Medals, and the Normandy Invasion Medal. He was a waist gunner in B-17's, completing more than 30 missions over Germany. He was a member of Holy Family Church.
