  • A Hannibal man faces assault charges following a shooting in Hannibal last week which left a Kansas City man wounded.
On Tuesday, a warrant was issued in the 10th Judicial Circuit Court charging Martez D. Peete with the Class A Felony of Assault 1st Degree – Serious Injury. Bond was set at $100,000 cash only. Peete remains in the Marion County Jail.
Peete was taken into custody on Monday afternoon at a residence Mexico, Mo., where he was reportedly hiding in an attic. According to Lt. John Zerbonia of the Hannibal Police Department, the 25-year-old Peete was not armed when he was arrested without incident by Hannibal detectives.
While police are not saying what Peete’s relationship is with the people in whose house he was hiding, Zerbonia reports that “charges are being considered for those who were harboring him.”
Peete’s charges stem from a Jan. 28 shooting in the 400 block of N. Arch in Hannibal where a 38-year-old man was shot twice. The victim’s wounds were not life threatening.
