A Hannibal man faces charges stemming from a car fire in Palmyra on Sunday.
According to Palmyra Police Chief Eddie Bogue, a warrant was issued Monday on James D. Smith of Hannibal. He has been charged with knowingly burning or exploding, a Class D felony. Smith is currently being held at the Marion County Jail with a $25,000 cash only bond.
Bogue reports that shortly before midnight Sunday Palmyra police were called to the 100 block of Lafayette Street where a car was on fire.
Due to the suspicious nature of the fire an investigation was opened. The State Fire Marshal's office was contacted to assist with the investigation.
Officers were able to determine a suspect and at 3:49 a.m. Monday the 29-year-old Smith was located at his residence and arrested by Hannibal police and a Marion County deputy.
