  • Alice Emma Hankins, 93, of Hannibal, died at 11:59 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2013, at the Luther Manor Nursing Center in Hannibal.

  • Alice Emma Hankins, 93, of Hannibal, died at 11:59 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2013, at the Luther Manor Nursing Center in Hannibal.
    Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2013, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Rev. Mark E. Howard will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.
    Visitation will be from noon until the time of service on Thursday at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home.
    Mrs. Hankins was born November 22, 1919, in Burlington, IA, to James Wesley and Pearl Eston Hewitt.
    She was married to Golden Hankins on September 17, 1966, in Jacksonville, IL. He survives.
    Other survivors include daughter, Jerry (Earl) Johnson, Hannibal, MO; step sons, Earl (Judy) Hankins, Cincinnati, OH, Charles Hankins, Cincinnati, OH, and Keith Hankins, San Francisco, CA; grandchildren, Janice (Maurice) Beasley, Kevin (Sandra) Johnson, Julie Scott, and Alice (Le Dent) Humphrey; great-grandchildren, Keith Scott, Le Daya Humphrey, Alexis Humphrey, Wesley Evans, Ciera Evans, and Yudsara Johnson; a great great grandchild, Tristin Doss; and a host of step grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Charles Hewitt and Joseph Baker; and step son, Harold Hankins
    She and her husband were house parents at the Chaddock School in Quincy, IL. She worked for Raible Manufacturing and later retired from Hannibal Carbide Tool. After her retirement, she worked at Wal Mart in Hannibal for 20 years. She was a former member of the Park Chapel Baptist Church in Palmyra, MO, and then joined the Melrose Methodist Church in Quincy, IL. Alice had previously worked for the family of Dr. Wyatt Hamlin. She was active in the Park Chapel Baptist Church, serving as a Red Circle Leader, missionary and usher. She was a wonderful cook and famous for her pound cakes, she enjoyed sewing and tending to her garden and flowers. She loved family get togethers and traveling.
    Pallbearers will be Kevin Johnson, Le Dent Humphrey, Maurice Beasley, Wesley Evans, Kevin Florence and James Porter.
    Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Holand, Lester Black, Major Griggsby, Richard Taylor, Alonzo Fitzpatrick, Titus Cassidy and Keith Scott.
    Memorial contributions may be made to the Chaddock School in Quincy, IL, or Park Chapel Baptist Church in Palmyra, Missouri.
