Annette P. Olsen Birkeness, 96, of Hannibal, died at 11:12 p.m., Monday, January 28, 2013, at Luther Manor Nursing Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2013, at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Rev. MichaelStoerger will officiate.
Burial will be in Grand View Burial Park. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of services Saturday at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Smith Funeral Home & Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Birkeness was born June 21, 1916, in Oconto, WI, to Ole R. and Anna Anderson Olsen. She married Arne M. Birkeness, February 23, 1946, at Oconto, WI. He preceded her in death May 24, 1991.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara A. Birkeness of Hannibal, and Janet B. (Michael) Welch of Centennial, CO; 4 grandchildren, Rebecca (David) Geswein, Daniel (Cara) Welch, Bridget (Jason)
King, and Marybeth (Joe) Goodwin; four great-grandchildren, William Geswein, Brady Welch, Adam King and Grace King; brother, David (Mae) Olson, West Bend, WI; and several nieces and nephews.
Annette’s devotion to her husband, daughters, extended family, and friends was evident and appreciated by all, along with her pleasant disposition and kindnesses that will be remembered by many. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband and four brothers.
Mrs. Birkeness formerly worked in the cafeteria at Hannibal High School. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Chruch and St. John’s Ladies Aid. She also participated in the Burlington Veterans, Hannibal High School Band Boosters, and volunteered at St. John’s Lutheran Church to fold newspapers at the Hannibal Courier Post. She was a 1934 graduate of Oconto High School.
Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Northeast Missouri Humane Society or Luther Manor Nursing Center in care of Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
