The Hannibal-LaGrange University Art Department will be hosting an art exhibit featuring Quincy, Ill., artist Joe Conover, Friday, Feb. 8, through Thursday, Feb. 28.
An opening reception for Conover’s exhibit will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, in the lobby of the Roland Fine Arts Center on the HLGU campus.
Just before retiring as a newspaper editor in 2000, Conover took up print making. Largely self-taught, he had studied watercolor, monotype, monotype printing, cold wax and oil, etching and mixed media. His work has been exhibited in multiple locations in Hannibal and Quincy as well as Connecticut, Alabama and Bulgaria.
A native of Hancock County, Conover lived in Tokyo, Japan, after university graduation and military service and has traveled through the former Soviet Union, much of Europe, and to Haiti. He and his wife Janet, residents of Quincy since 1968, are the parents of two adult sons.
