The third suspicious house fire in four months occurred over the weekend in Saverton. The latest blaze happened early on Saturday.
According to Michael Dobson, chief of the Hannibal Rural Fire Protection District, his department responded at 4:11 a.m. to the report of a structure fire that had destroyed a vacant home at 13133 Highway E.
The structure, reportedly owned by Dwight and Rebecca Flint, was located near the roadway, with no other homes around it. The blaze was not reported until someone driving by noticed a small fire and reported it.
Dobson says the fire department put out several hot spots and worked with Ameren to isolate the electric service.
Saturday’s blaze follows fires in two other vacant homes in the Saverton area on Sept. 9 and Oct. 5.
The latest fire is under investigation by the Hannibal Rural Fire Protection District, Missouri State Fire Marshal’s office and the Ralls County Sheriff’s Department. Anyone having any information regarding the fire should contact the Ralls County Sheriff’s Department.
