  • Polar Plunge features many participants again

  • Polar Plunge again attracts many participants and spectators.

  • With the air temperature in the upper 20s and the water cold enough to allow ice to form in the river, participants plowed into the Hannibal marina in waves Saturday morning during the third annual Polar Plunge.
A sunny sky and light breeze made conditions bearable for spectators. One couple came from Monroe City just to observe the spectacle, which serves as a money-raiser for Special Olympics.
Plungers came from a wide area. One Culver Stockton College plunger was from St. Louis. Other plungers came from Bowling Green, Columbia, Canton and, of course, Hannibal.
It was not immediately known how much money was raised or if the number of plungers had topped last year’s record total of 86.
Look for a recap on this year’s plunge in Tuesday’s Courier-Post. A photo gallery and video from the event will appear at hannibal.net .
