Sheriff Gerry Dinwiddie reports that the Ralls County Sheriff’s Department has received a $9,000 grant from the Department of Public Safety to purchase a digital repeater system to extend sheriff’s office radio coverage into the extreme eastern portion of Ralls County.
This grant will complement a $58,000 grant that the sheriff’s office recently received allowing the purchase of a new primary digital repeater, new digital mobile radios for each patrol vehicle, new digital base control stations for Ralls County 911 and new digital portable radios for each full time deputy.
With the new equipment utilizing a digital format, the signal is considerably clearer and gives them the ability to talk in a secure format. According to Dinwiddie, this will eliminate the criminal’s ability to keep tabs on deputies. This also helps protect our citizens from identity thieves and suspects who may listen to a police scanner to obtain personal information about our citizens.
