Officers with the Pike County, Ill., Sheriff’s Department in Pittsfield, Ill., reported Friday, Jan. 18, the body of a missing Palmyra, Mo., man, Christopher B. Witt, 21, had been found.
Officers reported preliminary findings indicate Witt died of exposure to the elements.
The following report was issued by the sheriff’s department. Witt was reported missing on Monday, Jan. 14. He was last seen in Palmyra and was believed to be traveling in a red Ford Fusion.
His body was found at approximately at 8:50 a.m. Jan. 18 after deputies responded to a report of discovery of his car. Officers began a search around the Industrial Park area, and found Witt approximately 140 feet from his vehicle.
Assisting at the scene were the Marion County, Mo., Sheriff’s Department and the Illinois State Police.
The investigation was continuing Friday by the Pike County, Ill., and Marion County sheriff’s departments.
