Here we are in the throws of winter and I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling like temperatures will never get above freezing again.
I’m the kind of person who doesn’t usually get bored. There’s just so much to do and especially since the internet came along there are more things to do than ever before.
I try to stay informed as to what is going on in our country and the world so winter is a great time for that. But if one’s suffers from SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) watching the news may not be for you. I do suffer from SAD but I feel the need to stay informed regardless
Right now the focus is on gun control and I’d like to just share my two cents. It didn’t used to be a politically charged topic and I am not addressing the issue in a political statement. I just want to say, guns are our constitutional right to have and the reason they are is so we can protect ourselves from a tyrannical government.
Growing up I never thought about that. I only thought about guns as a tool used to put meat on the table and maybe an occasional target shoot or a re-enactment of civil war or the “meets” they used to have where every one dresses in period dress (buck skin and coon skin hats) and sees who’s best at shooting and loading black powder or ax throwing. Things like that.
When I took my safety course it was for deer hunting or other critters I may be lucky enough to get. So far in my life all critters that ran in front of my shot gun were safe. Now give me a pistol and it was another story but that was for fun I never hunted with a pistol although my late husband did.
Now the world has gone nuts. Since 9/11 we’ve had so many freedoms taken away OR just made it plan inconvenient to travel by air or cross a boarder without a huge hassle. I use to go to and from Canada without a wrinkle. Now I need a passport. OK, I can understand all of that. When we’re flying we are at the mercy of that conveyance. And every country should have the right to have some control of who comes into their country.
But now, taking away our ability to protect ourselves is just plain wrong. When we have more reason to protect ourselves than ever before. OH I know they haven’t taken them away YET but if our doctors are going to be questioning us about how many or what kind of guns we have after having to register them all in the first place, can taking (or trying to take) them totally away be far behind?
When will the government learn that you can not legislate morality or common sense, and when will they realize that only criminals break the laws whether it be with a registered or non registered gun or a bomb made out of house hold products or a box cutter or what have you. By taking away or limiting a citizen in the ability to protect themselves will only accomplish one of two things. And neither of them will be good, preventing us from protecting ourselves or making us a criminal.
It’s the person behind the weapon, no matter if it’s a knife, bomb, gun, poison or a ball bat. Taking them away will not keep someone with ill intent and with no regard for the law from doing what ever they wish to do to someone and when that someone is defenseless how much easier will it be to do what they want.
I would like to see the law makers make a crime involving a gun be a life sentence or something severe enough that even if they only committed an armed robbery and didn’t hurt any one they’d still get the big message, guns will put you away for life or a long time. That way the citizen can still protect themselves. It may be a deterrent, in some cases I believe it would. But it may make some stop and think….if that’s being done much these days.
Just my two cents on the matter…maybe this one is worth 3…or…1 depending on your point of view.
I just pray that wiser minds would prevail.
