WHAT IS IT? A section of U.S. 61 in Hannibal was reduced to one lane on Wednesday morning while preparation work was being done by the state for the relocation of a light pole.

Southbound motorists using U.S. 61 in Hannibal found traffic restricted to one lane Wednesday while work was being done by Missouri Department of Transportation personnel near the Stardust Drive intersection.
Preparation work was under way for the relocation of a light pole. On Wednesday, a concrete pad was to be poured on which the new light pole will be located.
“The new pole will be more in front of the (Commerce) Bank as opposed to the side of the street,” said Tana Akright of MoDOT.
All the prep work was to be completed on Wednesday, although the concrete will need time to cure. The new pad will have a week or two to cure since it is estimated it will take that long before a new pole arrives.
The previous pole could be seen leaning near Stardust Drive.
“It has been hit several times,” said Akright of the old pole, which she added was still solid despite its lean. “We kept repairing it and it just decided it didn’t want to stay up where it was supposed to.”
