  • On January 20, 2013, Arlen and Catherine Schade will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
    They were wed on January 20, 1963. It was a cold winter day (4 degrees F and icy). The wedding was held in Zion Lutheran Church in Palmyra, Mo., with the reception held in the church undercroft.
    The wedding anniversary will be celebrated with an open reception for all friends and relatives from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, January 20, 2013, at Zion Lutheran Church.
    The wedding was a traditional double ring ceremony performed by Rev. A.J. Becker. James Boettcher sang “The Lord’s Prayer” and “O Perfect Love” accompanied by Prof. Richard Althoff.
    The bride was Miss Catherine Peiter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Peiter of rural Palmyra. The groom was Arlen Schade son of Mr. and Mrs. William Schade of Palmyra.
    Shirley Poppe (Bramblett) of Hannibal was maid of honor and Mae Cline (Arnold) of Taylor served as bridesmaid. Richard Meyer of Perryville was best man and Glenn Schade, brother of the groom, of Palmyra served as groomsman.
    Bob Peiter, brother of the bride, of Palmyra served as head usher and was assisted by David Cook, William Blankenship and Danny Nelson (all of Palmyra) as ushers.
    The candles were lit by Larry Adkison of Louisiana, a nephew of the groom, and Susan Carlson (Kerkering) of Palmyra. The flower girls were Norleen Drebes (Elliott), niece of the bride, and Marcia Adkison (Dryden), niece of the groom. Dwane Schaefer, nephew of the bride, was the ring bearer.  
    Mrs. Vivian Drebes (Donelson), sister of the bride, and Mrs. Phyllis Adkison, sister of the groom, cut the cake and Freda Janvrin, cousin of the bride, and Carolyn Schoenborn (Williams) served the guests. Assisting them were Mrs. Bill Page and Mrs. Richard Kraft. Max Schaefer and Norman Drebes, brother-in-laws of the bride, made the punch. Mrs. Max Schaefer, sister of the bride, was in charge of the guest book.
    Since the marriage, the Arlen and Cathy have raised two sons, (twins) Kent and Kurt. Kent lives in Medical Lake, WA and Kurt has just moved back to the U.S. after working 10 years in England.
    Arlen and Cathy have lived in Rolla, MO, Peking, IL, Richland, WA, Ft Belvoir, VA, Richland, WA, Arvada, CO, Kennewick WA and, Knoxville, TN. Arlen also did an unaccompanied army assignment in Fort Sill, OK, and a one year work unaccompanied assignment in Amarillo, TX.
    They recently purchased property east of Palmyra in anticipation of constructing a retirement home.
