The Hannibal wrestling team might not have had the night it wanted, losing to Mexico 50-30, but of the five Pirates who won, four of them came via pinning.
Hannibal senior grappler Jake Borgmeyer kept his undefeated season intact Wednesday night when he pinned Mexico’s Matt Pursley one minute into the first round of the heavyweight match. With the win, Borgmeyer improved his record to 25-0 on the season while picking up his team-leading 17th pin.
In the 106 weight division, Hannibal’s Austin Janes had the Pirates’ only forfeit win of the night when Mexico did not have anyone to match up. The pinning was Fohey’s ninth of the season.
Also picking up his ninth pin of the year for the Pirates was Kyle Muehring. Wrestling in the 220 weight division, Muehring improved to 18-4 on the season when he beat Mexico’s John Lummis. Muehring’s pin came with 39 seconds left in the first round.
