  • The Evening Etude Music Club met on Jan. 8 to celebrate Founders’ Day. The National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC) of which Evening Etude is a member is now in its second century of existence.
Following dinner at Logue’s Restaurant, the meeting was opened by president, Connie Craig. Jo Ann Raney, secretary and Janet Ferguson, treasurer gave reports. Members joined in the Federation Hymn, Collect, and Song of the Month. Program chairmen, JoAnn Raney and Marjorie Jones, presented the highlights of NFMC and its history. They referred to the Web site - www.nfmc-music.org - as the main source for all information regarding scholarships, awards, contests-available, events, and how to contact the organization.
The club members were entertained by the poetry of member Marjorie Jones.
    “The Winter Doldrums”
    By Marjorie Jones

The temp was cold when I got up
I made my tea and drank a cup

Then I got the paper and read it through
Now, what in the world am I going to do?

I could bake a cake or make a pie,
But, for the life of me, I don’t know why!

I opened the drapes and looked around,
The flowers are long gone, and the grass is brown

The Christmas decorations are all put away,
Not a single one left showing today

    At 5 p.m. it’s nearly dark,
And I need something to give me a spark!

“Cheer up, old gal”, I said.
“You woke up this morning.  You’re not dead!”
