This academy is an 11-week program including 440 hours of training that provides recruits with the basic knowledge and state certifications to begin their career in the fire service. The training consists of both classroom and hands-on practical skills sessions.
In addition to physical conditioning and acclamation to the routines of the fire service, recruits also receive training and certifications in Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations levels, Fire Fighter I & II, Vehicle Rescue Technician NIMS: Incident Command for the Fire Service, LP Gas Emergencies, Introduction to Technical Rescue, Trench Rescue Awareness, and Pumping Apparatus Driver Operator.
Probationary Firefighter Schindler was also voted as “Distinguished Graduate” by his peers from Columbia, Marshall, Jefferson City and Hannibal.
Both Schindler and Royal have also obtained their Missouri and National Registry EMT-B licenses, and are both now working on shift.
