Nancy E. Stafford, 62, and William E. Stafford, 67, of Laddonia were killed in a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in Pike County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol the accident happened at 2:15 p.m. on U.S. 54 at Route U.
The crash reportedly happened when a 2010 Volvo Tractor operated by 32-year-old Ibrahim Bourakba of Baton Rouge, La., attempted to avoid colliding with a vehicle. In so doing it crossed the center line into the westbound lanes of U.S. 54. William E. Stafford, the driver of a westbound 1998 Ford Explorer, attempted to avoid the Volvo. As the Explorer was traveling off the right side of the road it was struck on its left front by the tractor.
The Staffords, who were both wearing safety devices, were pronounced dead at the scene by Pike County Coroner Jim Turner.
Bourakba, who sustained moderate injuries, was flown to Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur. He was also wearing a safety device at the time of the crash.
