Mary Alice (nee Fry) Moretti, age 87, of Hazelwood, MO (9/12/1925-12/31/12). Born and raised in Hannibal, MO. Following graduation from Hannibal High School, Mary moved to Chicago where she began her singing career, touring the nation as part of the USO. Her travels resulted in her encountering and ultimately marrying Sam Moretti on June 17, 1945, upon his honorable discharge from World War II service. After many years and pasta dinners in Chicago, her family moved to St. Louis and she worked out her working years as part of Eastern Airlines until she retired in 1984.
Her many unique experiences and warm heart enabled her to make friends easily in any situation and always kept an open door for them. Mary had wisdom beyond her years, which she openly shared with anyone that crossed her path. (Quite literally! She made many friends who happened to walk past her house as she sat out front.) Her comforting presence and firm handshake continually reminded those in her presence of the power of Mary (Nana).
Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Sam; her parents, James William and Alice Catherine (nee Schultz) Fry; her brothers, Bernard, Richard Wesley, and Gentry Schultz Fry; her sisters, Caroline Shaw (nee Fry) and Esther Caroline Fry; and her son, James Samuel Moretti.
Mary was dedicated to her family. She is survived by two brothers, Joseph Franklin and James Wilbur Fry; her sister, Norma Jean Northcutt (nee Fry) of Hannibal; her daughter, Michaele Teske (nee Moretti) (Bill); grandchildren, William Spencer Teske (Chrissy), Nora Catherine Black (nee Teske) (Brian), Alana Diane Hartman (nee Moretti) (Nathan), and Samuel James Moretti (Rachel) and great-grandchildren Elsie and Roma Black and Maggie, Charlie, Peter, Reed and Henry Hartman, all of St. Louis, MO.
Visitation will be held at Hutchens Mortuary, Friday, January 5th, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Catholic services held Saturday, January 6th, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Florissant, MO.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the USO (www.uso.org) or the Disabled American Veterans (www.dav.org)
