  • She doesn't realize it yet, but the first baby born at Hannibal Regional Hospital in 2013 has something unique in common with her mother - the same Jan. 1 birthday.
"I was really wanting her to come the day before, that way it (birthdays) would be spaced out, but it's a good birthday gift," said Courtney Wooldridge Wednesday morning. "She's a good baby."
Wooldridge's wish of having a little 2012 tax deduction missed coming true by several hours.
"It was a long process. I was induced at 11 a.m. and in labor until 9:30 the next morning," she said.
Gabriela Nicole, who was due on Christmas, was born to Wooldridge and Valerio Santiago Favian at 9:33 a.m. Tuesday.
Wooldridge didn't realize that Gabriela was the hospital's first birth of the new year until after the delivery was over.
"I heard something and they came into my room carrying stuff. They said this is because you had the first baby of the year. It was kind of surprising," she said. "My mom told me I was a New Year's baby. She said when she had me (in Jersey County, Ill.) they gave her a lot of stuff. It's kind of neat. They're really good people here."
Among the special gifts that Gabriela and her family received from Hannibal Regional Hospital, Hannibal Regional Hospital Foundation and area businesses were:
    • A $2,000 scholarship from Hannibal-LaGrange University.
    • A dozen roses provided by Griffen's Flowers.
    • A photography session with Michelle Huseman Photography.
    • A gift certificate for a haircut and style for mom from The Loft.
    • A gift certificate for dinner for the family from Fiddlestiks.
    • A gift certificate for a pedicure and facial for mom from The Powder Room.
    • A gift certificate from Hannibal Medical Supplies.
    • A gift certificate from County Market.
    • A gift bag from Birthright of Hannibal that includes a variety of items for baby.
    • A First Baby Christmas Ornament provided by Hannibal Regional Hospital Foundation.
    • A gift basket from Hannibal Regional Hospital.
    • A baby blanket and hat, made by Hannibal Regional Hospital Auxiliary.
    Snowy ride
Despite Monday morning's snow, Wooldridge traveled from her home in Louisiana to Hannibal for a doctor's appointment.
"It was snowing and kind of wild out there. The roads were slippery, but we got up here," she said, noting that she was driven to Hannibal by her uncle, and accompanied by her aunt and mother. "Because the weather was pretty bad and she was almost a week overdue, they sent me on over to get induced."
Gabriela is Wooldridge's second child. Wooldridge also has a 5-year-old son, Garrett, who is not sure what to make of the little person wrapped in a pink blanket.
