The Hannibal wrestling team won again Tuesday night, but it wasn’t a gimme. The Pirates beat North Central Missouri Conference foe Moberly by the slimmest of margins, 40-39.
The final score was actually 39-39, but Hannibal was given the win because they won more matches.
Of the 14 weight classes in a dual, the Pirates went to Moberly with four open spots. That automatically gave Moberly 24 points. The Spartans then won three matches to earn an additional 15 points.
For the Pirates, six of their wins came via pin. Jake Borgmeyer continued his perfect season with a pin in the heavy weight division while Brant Dooley won his 182 weight class by pin. Colby Collings pinned his way to a win in the 145 weight class as did Chandler Fohey in the 113 weight class.
The final two Pirates to pin their opponents were Austin and Tyler Janes. Tyler Janes pinned his opponent in the 132 weight class while Austin Janes matched that in the 106 weight class.
The Pirates final points of the night came from Noah Ratliff. Ratliff beat his opponent by a 5-2 decision.
In the junior varsity matches, Hannibal came away with a 30-18 win. All eight match winners pinned their opponent. The Pirates had 5 pins, two each coming from Tyler Leake and Nick Meyer and one from Harry Vessell. Leake’s pins came against Tariq Kitchen and Travis Tran in the 113 weight class while Meyer had his pins against Lane Kirkpatric and Kolten Hess in the 138 weight class. Vessell’s win came in the 220 weight class against Greg Morgan.
There will be very little time for rest as Hannibal heads back out on the road this afternoon. The Pirates travel down to Jefferson City where the Hannibal grapplers will take on Helias Catholic and Warrenton in a double dual. The duel is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
