The Monroe City girls’ basketball team needed just one player to beat Winfield 60-20 Friday night.
Carly Spalding turned in 22 points as she single-handedly outscored Winfield 22-20.
In the first quarter, Spalding scored half (10) of the Lady Panthers’ 20 points while Winfield managed just 6 points. After recording a lone bucket in the second quarter, Spalding again outscored Winfield in the third quarter. This time Spalding scored 8 points again while Monroe City held Winfield to a lone free throw.
But it wasn’t just Spalding doing the scoring for Monroe City. Kiette Mundy finished with 15 points while Leah Albus turned in nine.
The Lady Panthers had two huge scoring quarters, putting up 20 in the first quarter to set the tone for the game and then another 26 points in the third quarter to seal the game.
With the win, Monroe City improves to 9-0 on the season. Next up for the Lady Panthers is the Carrollton Lady Hawks out of Carrollton, Ill., on Monday at John Wood Community College for the 2012 Rumble on the River. Tip off is at 7 p.m.
