The Hannibal boys basketball team extended its losing streak to five games with a 61-49 loss to Moberly Tuesday night.

Moberly jumped out to an early lead, outscoring the Pirates 18-11 in the first quarter. Hannibal battled back in the second, outscoring Moberly 12-9, but it wasn’t enough as the Pirates went into halftime trailing 27-23.

When the third quarter got underway, the Pirates continued their trend of scoring more points each quarter. Hannibal put up 13 points to start the second half, but the Spartans rebounded and scored 16 points to extend their lead to 43-36. During the final eight minutes of the game, Hannibal again scored 13 points, but Moberly put the game out of reach with 18 points.

Freshman Dylan Powell led the Pirates in scoring with 16 points while senior Dalton Powell finished the night with 14 points. Eric Hugenberg hit three treys for Hannibal and contributed 11 points for the Pirates.

With the loss, Hannibal falls to 1-7 on the season and 0-2 in North Central Missouri Conference play.

In junior varsity action, the game was much closer as the Pirates lost 41-37.

Jerry McBride led Hannibal with 16 points while Jack Baughman and Kael Rademan each chipped in 5 points.

The juinor varsity Pirates fell to 2-4 with the loss.
