For the first time this season, the Hannibal Middle School girls’ seventh grade basketball team walked off the court a winner. The Junior Lady Pirates beat Moberly 44-33 to earn their first win.
“They were ecstatic,” Hannibal coach Zach Campbell said of his team. “I couldn’t have been happier for them. The gym echos really bad and it went crazy with seventh grade fans and eighth grade fans from Hannibal. The girls barely rememberd to line ip to shake hands.”
The Junior Lady Pirates built up a 25-18 lead at the break and outscored Moberly 19-15 in the second half.
Morgan Miller led Hannibal with 21 points, including a perfect 4-for-4 on three-point shots. Miller aslo pulled down seven rebounds for the Jr. Lady Pirates.
But it wasn’t all Miller as Tamia Emerson contributed 18 points and five rebounds for Hannibal. Lorasia Ecford finished the night with 10 rebounds while Tori Wilson had 4 points, 4 boards, and a pair of blocked shots.
“We played really tough the last two games,” Campbell said. “We still need to work on our rebounding and closing off the passing lanes, but much (we are) improved since the beginning of the season.”
The Hannibal seventh grade girls will host Elsberry Thursday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The Hannibal Middle School eighth grade girls’ basketball team also came home a winner Tuesday night. The Junior Lady Pirates beat Moberly 42-16.
Jada Humprey led Hannibal wth 9 points while Hannah Deien and Payton Oden both turned in 8 points. Emily Albright chipped in 7 points for Hannibal.
With the win, Hannibal improves to 7-0 on the season. Next up for the eighth graders is Highland on Saturday, Dec. 15.
