A wood stove is being blamed for a garage fire in northern Marion County Wednesday morning.
Firefighters were called to a home on Highway M around 9 a.m. in Emerson.
Jouy Allensworth said everything appeared to be fine when he left from his girlfriend's home for work in Quincy, but had to rush back.
Firefighters from the Rural Marion County Department rushed to the scene and originally reached out to Hannibal and neighboring departments for mutual aid. There was fear of two adjacent mobile homes and a nearby gas tank would become engulfed by the flames and fuel the blaze.
Mutual aid was called off, however, and Allensworth said firefighters were only on the scene for half an hour. No one was hurt in the incident.
