  • This year’s Parade of Lights in Canton will include a free children’s movie, bonfire, music and a visit from Santa.
The Third Annual Parade of Lights is at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6. At 5 p.m. a short movie - “Shrek the Halls” - will be shown at the Lewis Street Playhouse.
In addition, the 4th Street Warehouse Jazz will have live music at the Canton Public Library beginning at 5 p.m. and will continue after the parade. A free will donation is suggested for the entertainment, with proceeds going toward the Buddy Pack Program.
The library also plays host to Santa that evening. Santa will be in the parade and available to visit with children after the parade at the library.
Any business, organization, or individual participating in the parade can have a motorized vehicle or trailer decorated in a holiday theme, and must have functional lighting. Parade participants are encouraged to hand out candy and other items, but are asked not to throw candy.
Parade participants are asked to donate a minimum of $5 or a new unwrapped gift. The gifts will be donated to NECAC, and can be dropped off during business hours at Horner Insurance in downtown Canton. To register, stop by or call Richard Horner’s Shelter Insurance at (573) 288-3734.
All parade floats are to be in line on Second Street behind the school by 5:30 p.m. The parade will start at the intersection of South Second and Washington streets, proceed north to Lewis Street, turns west to South Fourth St., south to Montgomery Street, west to South Seventh St., north to Nesmith Street, east to North Sixth St., south to Route 16, east to North Fourth St., and south to Lewis Street, where it ends with a bonfire in Central Park.
