  • A project that was expected to be put off until next spring was being completed on Friday in Hannibal.
Brian Chaplin, project manager for the city, recently reported that work on Market Street, from Grand Avenue to Lindell Avenue, would not occur until 2013. On Friday, Chaplin wore a big smile as fresh asphalt was being put down on that street.
“We got done a day ahead of schedule around the (Mark Twain) school, so they went ahead and started milling this Thursday. Since they had the weather they thought they might as well get it done this year, and that was Bross’ call on that. We really appreciate that,” he said. “Weather like this is perfect for paving and we’re glad we’re getting it right now and will be able to finish the project this year rather than waiting to do this street next year.
“We’ve got two schools on this street and a lot of traffic. It ought to be nice to ride on,” added Chaplin, who estimated the project would use 1,000 tons of asphalt.
