John D. Schaffer, 87, of Palmyra, Missouri, died at 10:28 p.m. Monday at Maple Lawn Nursing Home. John was born July 17, 1925, in Taylor, Missouri to Leo W. and Tillie Belmeyer Schaffer. He married Dora Dean Schaffer June 3, 1945, in Palmyra, Missouri.
She preceded him in death February 2, 2012.
He is survived by a daughter, Gloria Schaffer of Palmyra; grandson, John P. Brackey of Dallas, Texas; great granddaughter, Danika Brackey of Dallas, Texas; brother-in-law, Jim D. Nix of Palmyra; sister-in-law, Louise Schaffer of Clarksville, Mo.; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Millen L. Schaffer, and sister, Darlene Peterson.
John farmed in the Palmyra area most of his life. He enjoyed going to dances, the coffee shop, and farm sales with special friends. He never met a stranger and always had something to say and probably a laugh or two.
Private graveside services will be held Friday at Greenwood Cemetery in Palmyra. Rev. Dewayne Larenson will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or to the donor’s choice. Casket bearers are David Nix, Danny Nix, Cammie Foster, Darin Nix, Dale Schaffer, Jim Rouner and Raymond Foster.
